The EMO-tings of a First Year Law Student!

The reason I like this movie so much is that it captures real people [police officers, housewives, movie directors (this is LA), small business owners] going about their daily lives; the police officer coming upon the scene of an accident, a locksmith coming home from work, a thug boosting an SUV.  Forget all the high-minded academy talk about tolerance and diversity as if this were a film about peoples of different races, religions and ethnicities all at their best as if this were an ACLU/NAACP, wet dream.  It captures the very un-PC realities of life in LA, post 9-11; the jaded white cop who's not such a bad guy after all, the Muslim who wants to kill the Mexican and avenge the gangbangers who vandalized his store, the white woman whose instinctive fear of two less than respectable looking young black males is completely justified, and the rather amusing car parking habits of Mexicans, Puerto Ricans and Salvadorians.  It doesn't portray a city on the edge or flirting with danger but the all too human, and often times very funny, interactions we all encounter on a daily basis with one another.
